I drove by today and it was like I was transported back to the past. For eight years, I had a nanny who often took me to her place. I grew up in that apartment, in her care and warmth. She read me different fairy tales and I drew on the carpet with my fingers, as children love to do, as if in our own little magical world. Now she is no longer alive... but the memories of her are still as vivid and bright. How much warmth is associated with this place - smells, sounds, children's laughter... all of it suddenly came to life, as if so many years had not passed. Sometimes it's enough just to drive by to remember who you are.
